12-11-06 A marina worker is honored for saving Lake Texoma from a dangerous shellfish. Texas Parks and Wildlife presented High Point Marina worker Tim Ray with a certificate of their appreciation. In October Ray discovered hundreds of a tiny shellfish called a Zebra Mussel on the aft side of a boat coming from Wisconsin. He alerted parks and wildlife and kept the mussels from going in the lake. The black and white striped mussels multiply rapidly and could constrict waterways and plumbing systems. They currently plague areas of the great lakes around the Mississippi. Right now there are no reported cases of Zebra Mussels in Texas.
