12-15-06 The recycling drop off center located at the Sherman Albertson’s is scheduled to close the end of the year leaving local residents concerned. This decision was made after the City of Sherman extended its curbside recycling service to all of Sherman and also began accepting glass in their collection.
Before, residents had to bring their glass to the drop off center to be recycled. The curbside can now pick up all recyclables eliminating the need for Sherman residents to visit the drop off. However, authorities say about half of the people who visit the drop off with their recyclables are not from Sherman.
Sherman city officials are petitioning the Texoma Council of Governments and county commissioners asking for another drop off for the greater Texoma region. The petition is available for signing at the drop off center in the parking lot of Albertson’s on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
