12-21-06 The City of Windom is saying goodbye to one of their most popular city leaders. Mayor Bill Roberts is retiring after nearly 20 years of service to the city. Bill Roberts has been a part of the Windom community since the mid 1950's but due to health concerns he is retiring. Residents of the town he loves so much honored him with well earned congratulations. More than 100 people packed the Windom SNAP Center this afternoon to say good-bye and thank their longtime mayor.
Mayor Roberts moved to Windom back in the 1950's and served as the school superintendent. In 1981 he was elected to the city council and in 1987 he was elected mayor. State representative Larry Phillips presented the longtime city leader with an award recognizing his service. Mayor Roberts is proud of the work he has done for the town. Fannin County officials passed a resolution declaring December 21st Bill Roberts day in the county. As for what to do next, Roberts plans on spending lots of time with his three daughters.
