DENISON, TX -- All around Texoma today, people are proving that you don't need a big budget to have big fun on the fourth.

"We have done this for four years now and it just keeps getting bigger every year and we have a lot of fun doing it," said Jan Worstell with Cedar Mills Marina.

At Cedar Mills Marina folks held a unique parade, with golf carts being the primary form of transportation but regardless of the size of the floats, event organizers say its all about being thankful for our freedom.

"It's really all about the wonderful independence and freedom that we have and how lucky we are to live here and its the fun side of fireworks and picnics and being on the lake with friends and family," Worstell said.

Out on the peninsula the Preston Volunteer Fire Department was also holding its annual independence day celebration.

"Every year we have a Fourth of July barbecue, but this year is special because its our fortieth anniversary," said Chief Allen Vols.

Folks helped celebrate by coming out for hamburgers, hot dogs, and birthday cake. Preston fire chief Allen Vols says that being a veteran makes the 4th even more special.

"I am retired navy, so serving my country for 22 years, it makes me feel good that people celebrate the fourth of july, but as a fire fighter, I have mixed emotions," said Chief Vols.

Those mixed emotions come from the fact that for firefighters, Independence day usually means more car wrecks and a lot more fires.
