Paris City Manager Responds to Charges

12-28-06 Outgoing Paris City Manage Tony Williams was given the chance to clear his name Thursday night.

In a public hearing, Williams responded to each charge for his termination.

The city council voted early this month to fire Williams as city manager.
They say they lost confidence in Williams' ability to work with the city council.

City officials say he also earned a sub-category evaluation in keeping council members informed.

Paris Mayor Richard Manning says 3 council members and several citizens also spoke on Williams' behalf.

Manning says Williams plans to continue working in city government, and Thursday night's recorded hearing could help him if he seeks future employment.

An interim city manager has not yet been named.
