GAINESVILLE, TX -- After a fatal traffic accident Monday in Cooke County that left 3 people dead and 3 others injured, and a similar accident killed 2 other people on the same stretch of highway less than a month ago, many say now is the time to address a deadly stretch of Interstate 35 near Gainesville. Maddie Garrett has more.

Both accidents involved a semi truck slamming into stopped traffic because of a construction zone on Interstate 35 just south of Gainesville.

Construction on the Elm Creek Bridge began a month ago and was scheduled to be completed Monday. TX-DOT says the company is way behind schedule. Only half of the work is done, and that has taken two months.

Cooke County Justice of the Peace Judge Dorthy Lewis of Gainesville says truck drivers are partly to blame and that they should have been paying attention. But she also blames the prolonged construction and would like some answers.

TX-DOT says KKM Construction Company will be fined for every day they go over the time constraint.
