Authorities in Johnston County evacuated parts of the city of Tishomingo early Wednesday morning, due to reports of fumes that may be flammable. Tishomingo Fire Dept. officials say they're still trying to determine the origin of the fumes. They believe the fumes may be coming from the city's sewer system.
The Tishomingo Fire Chief says the areas affected are 5 blocks west from Murray Ave., East Kentucky, and East 18th Street. Also affected are homes on West 20th, 21st, and 22nd Streets.
Authorities say they are in the process of flushing the city's sewer system to help dissipate the fumes.
No word on how many residents affected by the evacuation order or a cause of the fumes. So far, there are no reports of any injuries.
