Police Officer Injured

12/27/03 - A Tom Bean police officer was injured when a semi-truck slammed into his patrol car on a Grayson County highway Saturday night.

Investigators say it happened at the intersection of Highway 69 and Highway 697 around 7:15 p.m.
They believe slick roads prevented the driver of the semi from being able to stop at the stop sign. He slammed into the driver's side of the patrol car, pinning the officer.

Authorities are not releasing his name, but say the officer was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour and had to be removed by the "jaws of life."

He was transported to Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in stable condition. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

The Whitewright Police Department is still investigating the exact cause of the accident.
