Runaway Dump Truck Kills Bonham Man

1-7-04 - A Bonham man was killed this morning in Sherman when his dump truck rolled over him at a construction site. It happened around 9:15 a.m. near highways 75 and 1417, where developers are building a new golf course and neighborhood.

Sixty-year-old Joe Mack Franklin was checking out a mechanical problem on his dump trunk, which was parked on top of a hill. Franklin was underneath the truck when it rolled over him. Apparently he didn’t set the emergency brake. The truck finally stopped about 130 feet away. Sherman police officers say the incident will be investigated as a suspicious death even though it appears to be an accident.
