Police Shootout - Armed Suspect Killed

01-23-04 - Idabel police used deadly force Thursday afternoon when they say a man unloaded a magazine of bullets into several homes then turned the gun on authorities.
Around 5pm Thursday afternoon Idabel police received a shots fired call on Choctaw Road and Madison Street. When they arrived 20 year old Billy Russel Powers had already shot an entire magazine of bullets into several homes in that residential area. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, he reloaded his SKS assault rifle then turned the gun on police. Idabel police then fired back killing Powers.
OSBI is investigating the incident. They say Powers had an altercation with someone in one of the homes. He then left then came back with the rifle.
