Bald Eagles in Texoma

1-24-04-- One of the world's largest birds of prey was spotted in Texoma Saturday, but bird watchers had to look hard to see it! More than 40 people turned out at the Chickasaw National Recreational Area to see a bald eagle for the first time. It's been an annual event for many across the state since the national bird began "wintering" in southern Oklahoma 20 years ago. Saturday's tour group was able to spot two young eagles and one adult which was a triumph considering the morning fog. The park says they host the tour every year to give bird watchers an opportunity to see what's going on in nature. Although the bald eagle was on the endangered species list for years, it has recently been removed thanks to growing numbers.
