Nurse Indicted for Murder Again

1-26-04 - A former North Texas nurse already charged with killing four patients has been indicted in connection with six more deaths. Vickie Dawn Jackson was indicted Monday by a Montague County grand jury on three more counts of capital murder - each representing two patient deaths.

She was also indicted on one count of injury to a disabled person and attempted murder in a seventh case. She was a nurse at Nocona General Hospital where she's accused of injecting patients with a drug used to temporarily stop breathing in order to insert a tube. She was fired after nearly 20 people died in late 2000 and early 2001.

Bond is $6 million. Jackson faces trial in October. Prosecutors earlier indicated they will not seek the death penalty. Defense attorney Bruce Martin says his client will plead innocent to the new charges.

District attorney Tim Cole today declined comment. Nocona is about 60 miles north of Fort Worth.
