Ardmore Poverty Simulation

02-22-07 Folks in Ardmore got an up close and personal look at a day in the life of the less fortunate, Thursday night

About 60 school teachers, church leaders and chamber of commerce officials packed Saint Mary's Parish Hall for a community action poverty simulation.

Each was placed in a family and faced with challenges others face each day, like feeding and clothing their families on a minimum wage salary.

Commerce officials hope the experience will help participants be able to relate and reach out to others.

"It is amazing experience it really is they will walk away I guarantee they'll be exhausted, frustrated but with a real life feeling of how people struggle on a day to day basis with those issues feel," Patti Dean, the YWCA Director said.

The YWCA received a grant to make the night possible.
