City council members in Pottsboro are meeting tonight, and residents want the city to take a firm stand against a proposed Rushing Paving asphalt plant's possible move from Sherman to just outside Pottsboro.
Rushing Paving applied for a permit to build a hot mix asphalt plant on January 28. Now the permit they are requesting is the TCEQ standard permit, which does not allow for a public comment permit, as is the case with the coal burning power plants.
Residents are hoping the city passes a resolution against the building of the plant. The City of Pottsboro nor Grayson County can stop construction because Texas law does not give counties of Grayson's size the ability to zone. The proposed plant would fall in between Denison and Pottsboro, out of each city's jurisdiction.
After the meeting, residents are asked to stay for an informational session advising residents of the dangers an asphalt plant can bring.
