Texoma Fish Tale - Huge Fish Has New Home

Big Fish

2-6-04 - A Texas sized fish tale has another chapter. The world-record setting blue catfish caught in Lake Texoma last month now has a new home and a new name. The Texas Freshwater Fishery in Athens unveiled its newest tenant, a 121 pound behemoth named Splash. The Big Cat will live inside a 26 thousand gallon aquarium. The Grayson County man who caught the fish, Cody Mullenix, was on hand Friday to accept awards from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as well as the National Fishing Hall of Fame. He's already received worldwide press attention from ESPN Outdoors, Field & Stream and Sports Illustrated magazine. He also got to announce the new name. "Splash" will be on display for a while in Athens, but there are plans to eventually return Splash to Lake Texoma, her real home. Mullenix has said that as these big fish are sometimes 30 years old, they deserve to go back home to familiar waters.
