2-9-04 - Local law enforcement is fighting the war on drugs by taking away the homes of drug dealers. The latest case was in Sherman, just a block from Fairview Elementary school. Officers found $1,000 worth of methamphetamines inside the home just after midnight. But a Texas law allows the Sherman PD and the Grayson County prosecutor to seize any and all property belonging to a drug dealer. As long as they can prove that the property was purchased with drug money, the court will usually award it to them. Sherman police could not specify the amount of money they receive from these seizures but say it could be in the tens of thousands of dollars a year.
