Local Family Grieves Over Loss of Marine

3-2-04 - A Bonham family is mourning the loss of a grandson, who died on his way home from Iraq. Lance Corporal Adam Lipford was on his way home on Feb. 17 when his tank accidentally rolled off a ship in Guam, and he drowned.

The transport ship was being washed when it happened. Adam’s grandfather lives in Bonham, a place the young man visited regularly. Adam was 22-years-old and a four-year Marine veteran.

He survived seven months of combat in Iraq and was on his way home to Louisiana to get married. After his death, Adam was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding performance as a squad leader.
