Faye Sliger walks

ADA-A shocking development came in an Ada courtroom Thursday morning as Faye Sliger walked a free man. Sliger received the suspended sentence after he confessed he knew about Jerry Don Savage’s plan to kidnap and murder an Ada teen. Caitlin Wooten was kidnapped from the Ada High School parking lot two years ago and murdered.

Judge Tom Landrith sentenced Sliger to a 10-year suspended sentence. That means he only has to serve the 500 and some odd days he’s already spent in the county jail. For Caitlin's family and friends, those words were hard to hear.

Before the judge read his sentence, Sliger himself took the stand. He said he’s truly sorry for the way things turned out, and he would have stopped it if he could. He said he wished he could have traded places with Caitlin. As soon as those words came out of his mouth, the teenager's family was overcome with emotion.

As part of the plea deal, the family chose not to testify at Thursday’s hearing. They are angry with the judge’s decision.

In the deal, Sliger agreed to turn over all his assets to the Wooten family; the judge said that played a role in his decision.
