03-13-07 A chase through Denton and Cooke Counties ends with the suspect shot in the head.

Police say it began Tuesday evening when Lewisville PD alerted Denton Police that a sexual assault suspect was on the loose, possibly in Denton County.

Police say the suspect may have been following his victim to the hospital.

They say a witness called 9-11 reporting that they saw the suspect’s SUV headed toward Denton Regional Medical Center.

Police tell us when the suspect reached the hospital parking lot he opened fire from the SUV, shooting multiple rounds over his shoulder.

They say he then took off headed North on I-35, he exited the interstate, drove down the access road, skidded to a stop and got out of the SUV.

Police say they saw that he was armed when he walked into a nearby IHOP. They say he took one IHOP employee hostage for a brief time, let him go, then shot himself in the head inside the restaurant.

The suspect did not kill himself and was taken to a local hospital, then flown by helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Police are not releasing the suspect’s name at this time.
