Durant gearing up for tourism

DURANT--Summer is right around the corner and Durant city leaders say they hope the warm weather heats up Lake Texoma business. City leaders discussed tourism potential at the Durant Chamber of Commerce banquet Thursday night.

The Durant High School jazz band kicked off the Durant Chamber banquet Thursday night. Members discussed new ways to bring more tourism to the area, including proposed projects near the lake.

Developers recently signed plans for the Pointe Vista development at Lake Texoma. Officials hope the new will bring in more tourism dollars.

"I saw it as a good opportunity for a group of Oklahomans to come in and do development and that's what we put together," said Scott Fischer, a Point Vista developer.

Developers hope to begin construction in the next few months.
