SHERMAN, TX -- A famous visitor stopped in Sherman Wednesday for a good cause. Musician, Author and Motivational Speaker, LaDonna Gatlin, spoke at the Wilson N. Jones Foundation's 11th annual Health By Design Luncheon.

Her theme, "Tune up Your Life". Appropriate--since she's spent her life making music and performing with her family--as sister to the Gatlin Brothers.

She says her message is to lift others up--to appreciate each other. Something that the Wilson N. Jones Foundation says they also try to do by supporting local charities. Including the Wishing Well--a group that grants wishes to sick children, Us Too--a prostate cancer support group, and Time Out--a program for adults suffering memory loss.

Foundation members say Gatlin not only inspired the crowd she brought awareness to the importance of serving others.

"Oh, I think it was great and it's things that we've probably heard before but it's great to have that re-enforcement and just to be reminded that we need to do the right thing and be ready to help individuals," said Julie Mitchell with Wilson N. Jones.

"They invited me to this luncheon today to speak and just try to energize some folks," said LaDonna Gatlin. "It's a friendly day and of friends of Wilson N. Jones and help folks get acquainted with what the hospital does and I'm in charge of music and fun and leaving some practical tips for living."

"LaDonna has been on our list for a couple of lists to try and get her so we finally got her this year," said Health by Design Chair, Andi Schruhl.

"Five words and we never outgrow the need to hear them said--"I'm so proud of you." Who in your world maybe needs to hear that today?" Gatlin said.

"Well it's a friend-raiser is what we try to do. We want to introduce or re-introduce i guess our staff our Wilson N jones staff to the community, remind people the services we do have available and then show case any new services we might have for that event," Mitchell said.

"I thought she did a fabulous job, I enjoyed her music, she has a lovely voice and of course her story of her life was very good," Schruhl said.

"Just be the best you can be, be all that you can be reach out to other people becasue when we help other people realize their potential we're at our very best," said Gatlin.

About 260 people attended Wednesday's Luncheon.
