GAINESVILLE-A world-wide country gospel network has made its home right here in Texoma. When the Jones family bought Gospel Music Television four years ago, they hoped they could bring the music back to their hometown. Now their dream is a reality.
GMT started 15 years ago in Tennessee, but a month ago the Jones moved operations from Nashville to their new offices just off the square in downtown Gainesville.
It's a family affair with Jimmy and Dorothy Jones owning the network.
Sons, daughters, cousin, aunts, and uncles join the efforts. They're carrying on a tradition of seven generations of gospel singers.
A bedrock of the network is the family's gospel trio, the One A Chord. Network employees take gospel music shows and upload it to satellites reaching cable companies, and people watching on the web all over the world.
"You hear from Germany, Australia, Africa, India, and a lot of the nations that maybe wouldn't listen to preaching, they'll tune into gospel music," said Mary Fay Jackson, a gospel singer and works programmer on GMT.
GMT officials say they hope to televise *their show...Texas Country Gospel, daily, right from their Gainesville studios. They're bringing in a couple from Alabama to help.
