CARTER CO.--A body was found floating near the banks of the Washita River in Carter County Friday night, and authorities said it looks suspicious.
Drivers passing by the river bridge on Highway 53 just east of Gene Autry spotted the body around 3:30 Friday afternoon, and called the sheriff.
Divers worked for over an hour to pull the body to shore. Authorities say the man looks to be in his 30s and could have been in the water for three to four days.
Carter County Sheriff Harvey Burkhart says this doesn't appear to be an accidental death.
"His body was wrapped in some sort of material looks suspicious, probably a homicide," Burkhart said.
The body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for identification and determine what caused his death.
