Grayson County Commissioners approved an agreement with a New Braunfels company to maintain and operate the air traffic control tower at Grayson County Airport.
Silver State Air Traffic Control will upgrade the tower to meet FAA requirements and will also conduct training classes for future controllers.
Airport manager Mike Shahan says having an operational tower will increase interest and business at the airport.
"It's a win-win situation, we think. It saves the county $350,000 a year on costs of the controllers, daily maintenance, and so forth. Silver State saves them by being able to expand their operation."
This will be the first time the tower has been in use since the former Air Force base closed in 1971.
