Teenager Drowns in Lamar County

03-21-04-- A fishing trip turned deadly Saturday night for a Lamar County teenager. Dive teams recovered the body of a 16-year-old in a private lake on a county road northeast of Blossom around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The call came in to the Sheriff's Department around 4:25pm Sunday.
Sheriff B.J. McCoy says five teenagers were fishing at the lake, when three of them left for dinner. The other two continued fishing across the lakel from one another. One of the teens told the other he wanted to go for a swim. Moments later, he was struggling in the water. The friend jumped in to save him, but couldn't pull the other teenager to safety.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
