Meth Bill to Restrict Cold Meds

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma Senate voted 45-to-zero today
for a bill to restrict the sale of certain cold tablets used to
make methamphetamine. The main objective of the bill is to dry up the supply of pseudoephedrine - the key ingredient used in making meth. The chemical is found in common cold medicines such as Sudafed.

Under the measure, a person will have to show a photo identification and sign for the tablet form of the medicine. Only pharmacists will be able to sell the tablets. Gel capsules and liquid cold medicines are not affected.

Governor brad henry has urged the legislature to send the bill to his desk within two weeks so he can sign it into law. The bill now goes to the House for final consideration.
