DENISON, TX -- A train derailment in Denison Tuesday afternoon caused some minor traffic delays for commuters.

Denison Police say the train derailed around just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. The Union Pacific train went off the tracks just south of the crossing in the 1800 block of Crawford Street. The derailment reached all the way to Morton Street, blocking traffic there as well.

“There's no way to predict it. It's occasional we'll have some type of derailment, but it's not a very frequent thing around here," Lt. Mike Eppler of the Denison Police Department said.

The train was carrying empty box cars. No word on a cause
Those intersections were reopened after about an hour.
