Dealership Owner Pleads Guilty

03-25-04 - A trade-in scam catches up with a local car dealership as the owner pleads guilty to six felony counts.

Those charges all stem from transactions at Competition Chrysler. Prosecutors claim Glenn William Butler accepted trade-ins but never paid those cars off leaving customers with 2 car payments. Butler is facing a sentence of up to 20 years in a state prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Butler also entered guilty pleas on charges regarding sales taxes that he collected from customers, but never turned over to the appropriate tax offices. A sentencing hearing is set to begin on April 13 at 9 a.m., a process that may take some time.

The defense and prosecution plan to call a combined 50 to 60 witnesses. He is also facing several civil lawsuits.
