HUGO, OK -- A man suspected of drinking and driving was given a break by Hugo police until he threw his designated driver out of the vehicle.
Hugo Police say they observed Curtis E. Mills driving impaired on Saturday. Officers made the decision to allow Mills the opportunity to call a sober friend to drive him home. He complied, but as soon as officers drove away another unit observed Mills eject his designated driver and drive off.
Police gave chase, a short pursuit of about two miles ensued, and Mills was arrested.
Police later found several prescription pills believed to be controlled substances on Mills’ person.
He was arrested and charged with eluding police, possession of a controlled substance, and DUI.
Also in Hugo, police say James Russell Bills of Greenville, Texas, was pulled over early Saturday morning for a defective brake light. When officers saw an open container in the car, they then searched inside and found several ounces of marijuana.
Bills was arrested and booked into the Choctaw County Jail on several charges, including felony possession with intent to distribute.
Bond was set at $25,000.
