VAN ALSTYNE, TX -- It's just about dinner time, and do we ever have something to get your mouth watering-- our latest installment of BBQ Texoma. Daniel Armbruster takes us to Van Alstyne for some good barbecue with an old fashioned touch.
This week we're at Buck Snort BBQ, where the food is just as good as the name.
"We've had a lot of fun with that name. It's basically because of the Buck Snort Road out east of town," says owner Jim Smith.
What was formerly known as the Rib Joint in Van Alstyne is now Buck Snort BBQ. The restaurant is now under the new ownership of the old cook.
"The difference between now and then is I'm still the cook. I just have to play a few more roles. We have an excellent product. I don't have any apologies at all for the quality of our product," Smith says.
Every morning at 6:30, Smith fires up the smoke pit out back and loads it up with pork ribs, beef, chicken, sausage, and then one meat that’s the chef's choice.
"Sometimes we'll have turkey, sometimes we'll have ham. We always have the four meats, and then we take one and rotate it in and out."
The building has been in downtown Van Alstyne for 120 years. Smith says when you come in you'll get that old time feeling.
"The floors that we have here are original, the brick walls are original, the rest of it has been renovated. So you have a chance when you come in here of having that old time flavor of not only the building, but that old time barbecue."
And right now, as an added bonus Buck Snort BBQ is participating in KXII's Double Dollar Deals.
Buck Snort Barbecue is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11-2 and then 5-8.
