4-28-04 - A high-dollar case of check fraud hit Grayson County this month, but police believe the suspects have committed similar crimes in other parts of Texoma.

Two weeks ago, Sherman police began investigating complaints of two people writing checks at Walmart for high-priced merchandise. Those checks were later traced back to a stolen box of checks from a Sherman family. In all, police believe 36 checks were written on that account.

Police were led to a local hotel room in the search for the suspects. Christa Ivy, 29, and James McCarty, 28, were staying there, but fled before police got a search warrant. Once inside the room, officers discovered a large amount of evidence. The pair is wanted in Bryan County, for check fraud crimes there.

Police believe Ivy and McCarty are in the north central Texas area.
