SHERMAN, TX -- Members of of the Grayson County Community Emergency Response Team, or C.E.R.T., were recognized in Commissioners' Court this morning.

County Judge Drue Bynum and commissioners congratulated the second graduating C.E.R.T. class. C.E.R.T. trains average citizens to assist first responders during emergencies.

Grayson County emergency manager Sarah Somers says that C.E.R.T. teams have already been activated in Grayson County to help assess storm damage, and C.E.R.T. teams continue to train even after they graduate.

"We do refresher training and we are making plans to get together quarterly next year, and that there will be a 2010 class and that will be starting on the first Tuesday in January at 6:30 at the courthouse," Somers says.

C.E.R.T. team members must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, and complete 27 hours of training.
