SHERMAN -- One man is in jail after authorities say he was caught trying to steal copper wire in Sherman.

Sherman police say a worker at the UPS office called police after hearing metal being cut.

When officers arrived to a warehouse in the 4700 block of Fallon Drive, they searched for a suspect and then arrested 17-year-old Martin Ray Carter after chasing him on foot.

Officers found copper removed from air conditioning units, causing several dollars worth of damage.

Officers also found Carter's car with the tubing inside.

Carter was taken to the Grayson County Jail where he remains on a $2,500 bond.
