VAN ALSTYNE TX--The Holiday season usually means an increase in alcohol-related accidents, but this year one wrecker company in Grayson County is hoping to reduce those numbers.
While the Holidays are a busy time of year for most people, it is really busy for Tow Truck drivers.
"We do see an increase an alcohol related incidents during the Holidays," said Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department.
Many people choose to celebrate the Holiday season with a drink, but an increase in Alcohol consumption, mixed with the busiest travel season of the year makes for a potentially deadly cocktail.
"The Program we are going to start tonight is called Holiday Haul,” said Larry Adams who owns an automotive and towing company in Van Alstyne.
Adams has seen more than his fair share of holiday accidents caused by drivers under the influence, so this year Larry and his wife decided to do something about it.
"They can give us a call, and we will send a truck out and pick them and their car up and take them up to ten miles for free," said Adams.
The Holiday Haul program is available in Anna, Van Alstyne and Howe, and begins tonight. While Larry isn't sure how many people will take advantage of the services he says if it prevents a single accident he will call it a success.
"We are going to give back to our community, in November, for Christmas, and New Years," said Adams.
Adams says either way he will be hauling cars this thanksgiving weekend, he just hopes he gets to them, before they get into an accident.
