Election tabulation to blame for difference in Sherman elections

SHERMAN -- An internal tabulation of votes is to blame for a slight difference in the final Sherman election results.

City clerk Linda Ashby says she discovered an error in the count for two precincts.

City officials say although the voting is electronic, the counts are manual.

The corrected figures account for about a one-half percent difference in the margins of victory, but the change shouldn't affect any outcomes.

Acting city manager George Olson said, "We corrected the problem. There's nothing wrong with the system, the automated voting machine or anything like that. This was purely a manually, internal tabulation, and we have adjusted those numbers to what they truly are."

The city is scheduled to finalize the results Tuesday, May 22.
