Final Flight for Former Navy Pilot

5-6-04 - A man’s dying wish came true today in Grayson County – one last flight as he battles a terminal illness.

Jefferson Stinson fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam as a pilot in the Navy. But recently, the 83 year old found out he had Hodgkins Lymphoma and now only has six weeks left to live.

But with the help of a local pilot, his caretakers arranged a flight today at the Grayson County Airport. Stinson spent one hour in the air, enjoying the freedom that he experienced for most of his life inside an airplane.

While in the Navy, Stinson flew reconnaissance missions.
