5-14-04 - Prepare to change the way you drive near Oklahoma construction zones. Hoping to reduce accidents, Governor Brad Henry signed a bill into law this week that makes it illegal to merge within 1,500 feet of a construction zone.

It comes after several bad accidents, including one two weeks ago in the Arbuckle Mountains, where a car waited until the last moment to merge, and was clipped by a semi-truck.

If drivers don't obey the new law, they could pay a fine from $100 to $1,000 or 30 days in jail. The new law will go into affect November 1st.
