5-16-04- A Pottsboro family found more than they bargained for as they searched the home of a relative who passed away earlier in the week. In fact, ATF agents report they found enough explosives to blow up the entire house.
Sunday afternoon, ATF agents, HAZMAT crews and Pottsboro police closed down Highway 996 in Pottsboro after family members reported the explosives. They were discovered in a garage.
Investigators describe the man who lived in the home as a pack rat. They say he probably had no idea there were so many explosives in the garage. They discovered 48 blasting caps, which ATF agents say was enough to blow up the home.
Around 4:00 p.m., authorities detonated several of the devices. Shortly after they exploded the blasting caps, the highway was re-opened.
