Morphine Vial Tampered With in Van Alstyne

5-19-04 - A laboratory has confirmed that a vial of morphine was tampered with last month in Van Alstyne while in the care of the Emergency Medical Services Department. Texas Rangers are now investigating who had access to the vial, which is locked inside a safe.

Police aren’t releasing much information and won’t say how the vial was tampered with. Last month, Fire Chief Robert Lewis turned the vial over to police after finding it missing a protective cap.

The city has already changed its policy on access to the room containing drugs. They’ve installed a surveillance camera and now the police chief will be present when paramedics do their daily count of morphine vials.
