A Different Kind of "Balloon Boy" Story

CARTER COUNTY -- Most of us have heard about the "balloon boy" hoax, but now we have a much more positive "balloon boy" story to share. One young Texoma boy attached a letter to a birthday balloon and let it go in his front yard. The most amazing part of the story is where the balloon ended up. Shelby Levins reports.
Bradley Bamburg, 12, is a good student. The Dickson sixth grader has earned citizenship medals, and won two different accelerated reader awards. But now the young boy's curiosity has stretched far beyond southern Oklahoma.
"I never thought I’d get a letter like this,” Bradley explained.
About two weeks ago Bradley attached a hand-written letter to his dad's birthday balloon and let it fly away from his front yard just outside of Ardmore.
"I looked for a clear spot and then I let it go and watched it,” Bradley explained.
Bradley says he was hoping for some kind of a response, but admits he never thought the balloon would travel very far, much less out of state.
"I thought it wouldn't go but an hour away,” Bradley said.
But the balloon actually landed in Greenville, Mississippi. And Bradley received a letter from the man who found it – Jon Huntley.
Huntley even sketched map showing exactly where he found the balloon. In his letter Huntley explains he works on a farm in Greenville.
"I've been showing your letter to everybody I know, some of them say I could even be on the news,” Bradley said, reading Huntley’s letter.
Bradley says while this is the first time he's been on the news, it's not his first experience with balloons. Two years ago he was on the receiving end of a similar balloon experiment.
"I was ten and it came from Texas," Bradley said.
Now Bradley hopes this isn't his last experience with balloons, and he says he plans to keep in touch with his new friend in Mississippi.
Our sister station in Greenville Mississippi is trying to get in touch with Mr. Jon Huntley. And we hope to hear his side of the story soon.
