Sherman, TX--Grayson County commissioners met Monday morning to take action on the renaming of roads with duplicate names in Grayson County. This will affect hundreds of residents. Daniel Armbruster reports.

In September TCOG requested Grayson County Commissioners rename several roads in the county, because many of them share the same name. The redundancy can be confusing for emergency workers, and create delayed response times.
On Monday, commissioners reviewed final recommendations from residents who live on the 46 roads that will receive name changes. Whitlock says most of the roads that were renamed, were changed to a name that had some sort of significance to the residents living on the road; perhaps a historical figure or someone who used to live on the road.
Whitlock says while residents on all 46 roads will have to change items like driver's licenses and mail box lettering, those are small inconveniences that could save your live in an emergency...

"This could be your life that's in danger. It could be you that needs that ambulance or police officer to come your house and if he has the wrong address he's going to be late getting there. Being late is not good,” said Whitlock.

Whitlock says the new names will go into effect on January 1st and it will cost the county around $100 for every sign they have to replace. Whitlock says the amount will not cause an increase in taxes.
