Southern Oklahoma Soldier Burned in Iraq

(McAlester-AP) -- An Oklahoma soldier is recovering from 2nd degree burns suffered when a bomb exploded the vehicle he was riding in.

Private First Class David Willis of the McAlester area was riding in a gas truck delivering fuel and ammunition in Iraq when the explosive was detonated by remote control.

His mother, Tammy Willis, says her son couldn't hold a telephone, but was able to talk to her for a few hours and is doing well.

David Willis is assigned to the Second Battalion, First Infantry
Division.
