LOVE COUNTY -- Love County emergency officials say the E-911 election on Tuesday was a land slide victory. Voters overwhelmingly approved both propositions to fund an enhanced 911 system, with nearly 90% of votes cast in favor of the two propositions.

Proposition one, which called for a 15% monthly increase on the base rate of landlines, passed by more than 89%, according to the county election board. Election officials report 971 people voted in favor of the measure, and only 108 people voted against it.

The results were very similar for proposition two, that called for a $0.50 monthly service fee on cell phone bills. According to the Love County election board it also passed by more than 89 percent. Election officials tell us 966 people checked yes for the measure, and only 108 voted no.

Love County officials say although turnout was slow in the beginning, by the end of the day almost 20% of registered voters weighed on in the election.

Right now, dispatchers only have a 911 caller's verbal directions to rely on, but the newly approved enhanced 911 system will plot the exact location of every call.

Emergency Management Director Tracey Smithwick says E-911 will drastically cut response time from 30 or 45 minutes, down to 10 or 20 minutes.

Now county officials say they'll begin the process of implementing E-911 for Love County.

“We have to start contacting all the phone companies and let them know the vote passed. And now we'll start working on our mapping and addressing and everything like that to get that ball rolling,” Smithwick explained.

Love isn't the only county that reported positive election results on Tuesday. Pontotoc County tells us the Latta School Bond election passed by a landslide too. According the election board Latta voters approved the $825,000 bond issue by 83%.
