DENISON, TX--The planning that went into this move was precise right down to the second. Check points, computers, and step by step contact helped make the move as seamless as possible for the patients who needed extra special attention.

It's something hospital administrators say is a once in a lifetime event. There was sort of a buzz going around as 70 patients were transported from the old Texoma Medical Center to the new one.

It was a big job, that required attention to detail and a highly trained group of people.

"Oh I wanted to do it, it's a great facility," Dr. Lee Schreiber said, "I don't think there's anything better between here and Oklahoma City and Dallas."

With an array of color coded t-shirts; transporters, medical staff and even elevator assistants helped get everyone where they needed to go.

"This has been planned for months," Schreiber said, "we've got it down to a science."

Denison Fire Cheif, Gordon Weger said, "It's great, everybody is working together. We have most of the EMS services from across the entire county, helping. And so it's going real well."

While this move is definitely a first for members of the Denison Fire Department, the Chief says his team was well prepared.

"You know this is what we do everyday. So not to cut it lightly but EMS moves patients, just not on the numbers is the difference. But along with the numbers now, instead of having three running in Denison we've got 14 now. So we kind of took that number and moved up the number of ambulances. So basically it's the same, it's just business as normal."

Staff began moving patients around 7:30 am, Sunday morning. It took about five hours to move everyone to the new facility.

An hour before the hospital was officially open, the first new patient arrived, a woman in labor. Now the hospital has all 70 patients from thier old hospital and the first baby born in the new one.
