SHERMAN, TX -- For the second time in a week the story in Texoma is winter weather. Maddie Garrett has this live report from Highway 75 & U.S. 82 in Sherman.

While thick snowflakes began to fall Tuesday afternoon in north Texas, it's not sticking to the roads just yet. We're mainly seeing accumulation on the grassy areas at this point, but that doesn't mean that driving conditions are safe.

Emergency management officials say they were prepared for this second round of winter weather. Street crews were out earlier today pre-treating roads to help prevent them from icing up and getting slick.

De-icing crews are already out as well, hitting the trouble spots such as bridges and overpasses.

We talked with the Bryan County Emergency Management offices about what you should do to stay safe during this storm. They say you should stock up at home, especially if you live in a rural area. Also make sure you have plenty of food, water and and medications you need.

"There's all kinds of information on the internet where they can get weather information as well, so we encourage people just to be aware of what's going on around them and take some responsibility for their own well being really," Bryan Co. emergency management director James Dalton says.

If you are getting out on the roads this afternoon and evening, TX-DOT recommends you drive slow, use your lights and don't brake abruptly.

"The critical thing is for motorists to slow down and maintain an adequate distance between the car in front of them, and I think that's going to greatly improve the way the traffic moves through the roadway," TX-Dot area engineer Noel Paramanatham says.

The real ice dangers will come later tonight as temperatures could drop below freezing and the moisture on the roads could freeze over.
