Two upper level waves will interact with a warm and very moist air mass to generate thunderstorms through Saturday. Lightning and torrential rainfall that could cause flash flooding are the primary threats...with a secondary threat of damaging winds. Turn around, don't drown!
6-3-04 - Federal budget cutbacks could impact a Texoma fish hatchery that is dedicated to saving two endangered species.
The National Fish Hatchery in Tishomingo has raised Paddle Bill Fish and Alligator Turtles for 10 years – two species native to the Red River, but that have been endangered.
But due to insufficient budget increases, the only way to keep this hatchery open could be to cut the program all together and start raising more fish that make money, like gaming fish.
That’s igniting local fears that efforts to save the two endangered species could be lost. They held a public hearing Thursday to discuss the situation, and folks in attendance were in agreement on fighting to keep the hatchery as is.
Oklahoma Congressman Brad Carson is working on getting legislation passed that would give the hatchery $100,000 more a year.
