Suspicious Explosion Burns Ardmore Woman

6-8-04 - Firefighters say an explosion at an Ardmore house is suspicious. Flames erupted at the home on the corner of O and 11th Streets just after noon Tuesday, leaving one woman in critical condition.

Neighbors, including workers at a next-door daycare, say they heard a loud explosion like thunder, and then saw black smoke and flames pouring out of the home’s windows. A woman was lying just outside the doorway seriously burned.

Firefighters put out the flames quickly, but inside the home found containers with gasoline in them. Police say the gas and electric utilities had been shut off at the home weeks before, and neighbors were under the impression that the victim had moved out.

Authorities aren’t releasing the victim’s identity. She is in critical condition with burns over 68% of her body.
