Gas War Causes Price Drop in Paris

6-10-04 - Frustration over high gas prices showed in Paris, Texas Thursday as hundreds of people lined up to reap the benefits of a gas war. The battle was waged between two Paris convenience stores as they dropped prices all day long – finally reaching $1.49 per gallon.

It began just after 10am when the Speedy Stop and Food Fast started dropping the price of gas from $1.89 per gallon. The word spread around town, and within hours lines stretched around the block as people took advantage of what turned out to be a 25% cut in the price of gas.

But not everyone was playing nice. Store clerks had to call police in after two people got into a scuffle, and there was frustration about drivers cutting in line.

By the end of the day, the Speedy Stop was the victor – dropping their price to $1.49 compared to $1.51 across the street.
