6-11-04 - A local man played a crucial role in the state funeral of former President Ronald Reagan. Bode Beamon serves as a member of the ceremonial guard and was one of the servicemen who carried Reagan’s casket Friday in Washington, D.C.

Beamon grew up in Thackerville, Oklahoma in Love County and joined the Navy two years ago.

Today his family watched as he took part in the most important duty of his young military career. The honor guard carried the coffin from the capitol rotunda to the national cathedral. Beamon is second in line, on the right side of the photo.

This isn't the first time bode Beamon has played a role in a funeral. He also helped carry the casket of the late Senator Strom Thurmond.
