Texoma Towns Awarded Money For Improvements

06-15-04 - Several towns in Texoma will see hundreds of thousands of dollars in Federal grants this year. In an attempt to improve infrastructure and housing in rural areas, The Office of Rural Community Affairs has awarded more than $48.5 million to small Texas towns and counties.

Bonham, Anna and Bells will each receive a quarter of a million dollars for infrastructure improvements. The City of Bonham will use the money to replace old, cast iron water lines to improve water pressure. Anna will use the funds to increase their wastewater treatment capacity. The City of Bells will make improvements to the sewage system.

Aubrey, Collinsville, Cooper and Southmayd will also receive money for sewage treatment and water line improvements. Smaller grants for community planning were handed out in Collinsville, Dodd City, Gunter and Leonard.

Over 1,000 cities were eligible for the grants, OCRA awarded money to 200 of those cities.
